The curl of a leaf. A single windblown sunflower.
I am curious about the transitory reality of each living entity.
Whether on canvas or paper, my work focuses on the delicate beauty found in nature. Found objects and other subjects are part of some of the compositions.
Textures have always fascinated me. The raised veins of a withered philodendron leaf, thousands of smooth bumps on a gourd, or the wispy fluff ready to carry away the seeds exploding from a spent dandelion.
In mixed media work, I usually prefer to use monochromatic tones or vibrant colors strongly influenced by my childhood in Hawaii A departure from my typical color palette was made in the twenty-six panel piece "Angelus blissfully conscious..." The colors for this composition were inspired by those seen in the ruins of Pompeii.
My work has gradually developed from two-dimensional to tactile, subtle three dimensions, and back to mostly two-dimension.
